Each year out here at Old Tavern, we try to get better and better as stewards of land, produce growers, livestock handlers, and overall people. That holds no exception to our farm crew.

The people that come to work on our farm gain a new set of skills, a deeper connection to the community, and a strong sense of pride in the meaningful, tangible work we do. As a member of our team, you'll receive hands-on guidance, detailed and clear training materials, and ongoing support. There are also a few special perks you'll get as a member of the team, including free produce and entry to events we host on the farm.  ​​

As a member of our team, we expect you to respect your coworkers, our customers, the animals who live here, and the land we work on. Show up on time and ready to work. We encourage open communication and hope you take pride in doing the job well, even when it gets tough!

When considering applying, please remember that most of our seasonal positions start in March/April and end between late October/early December. Available Positions:

​

Field Crew Member

Responsibilities: 

• Work directly in the field seeding, irrigating, weeding, and harvesting crops

• Assist with processing and packing crops as needed

Qualities:

• Ability to work long hours in a physical, outdoor environment

• Willingness to work hard in difficult weather conditions

• Strong attention to detail and timeliness

• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting

• Desire to gain hands-on experience in sustainable food production

Previous farm work or relative experience required.

Packing Shed Manager

Responsibilities:

• Oversee proper washing, packing, storage, and food safety of harvested crops

• Train new pack shed crew members on proper techniques

• Communicate with field crew and management

• Help customers when the store is open

Qualities:

• Detail oriented and organized

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to lead and support a small team

• Comfortability balancing physical work and oversight

• Ability to multitask

Previous management or food handling experience is required.

Packing Shed Crew Member

Responsibilities:

• Wash, pack, label, and store produce for wholesale and retail use

• Set up and break down farm store

• Assist customers in the store throughout the day

• Willingness to work long hours in a physical, outdoor environment

Qualities:

• Strong communication skills

• Detail oriented

• Ability to work independently and in a team setting

• Ability to multitask

Experience is preferred but not required. Training will be offered to people who show up ready to learn!

 

Farmer's Market Team Member

Responsibilities:

• Set up market booths, sell produce, and connect with customers

• Pack and unpack produce for markets

• Talk with customers and share the story of our farm, connecting with the community

Qualities:

• Strong communication skills

• Interest in local food and community

• Responsible and trustworthy

• Ability to multitask in a busy market setting

• Ability to grow sales using product knowledge and strategic upselling

Experience is preferred but not required. Training will be offered to people who show up ready to learn!
